Our mission: The mission of the Office of Environmental Planning and Policy Coordination is to protect human health and the natural environment of the Marshall Islands actively supporting a sustainable balance between RMI's economy and its natural environment, and to ensure improved coordination of all international and regional environmental programmes and activities allowing policy coordination to rest directly with the office of the President. Since 2003 OEPPC has been working for a cleaner, healthier environment in the atols. OEPPC was established by President and His Cabinet (in accordance with the Republic's Vision 2018) which calls for the strengthening of the Government's focus on the issue of Climate Change. Furthermore, climate change is linked to the Rio Conventions: UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), UN Biological Convention (UNCBD), UN Convention to Combat Desertification, including all the Protocols as Parties to. Thus, this brings the issue of Climate Change and its associated Kyoto Protocol as a high level issue for the RMI. To this end, the OEPPC will focus on building its capacity to direct its activities on the issues surrounding these three Conventions. Main duties of OEPPC include the following: |
